Spotify India has been officially launched and says it is offering more than 40 million songs and 3 billion playlists. Spotify is the world’s most popular music streaming service.

India is the 79th country that Spotify has launched globally, and the 11th country to get the service in Asia. Spotify is majorly known for music streaming but it also features podcasts.

Spotify Premium India subscription price is Rs. 119 per month and Rs. 1,189 per year. Other than this, Spotify also offers top-up packs for those who don’t want to pay for a recurring subscription. These top packs start at as little as Rs. 13 for one day and can cost as much as Rs. 719 for six months.

The services of Spotify India can be used on Web, Android, and iOS, but it also has apps on various other platforms such as Xbox One, Windows 10, PlayStation 4, Amazon Echo, smart TV, smart speakers, etc. Talking about Spotify the music streaming service is known for its algorithm-based music recommendations engine, which assists music to your taste. The service is claimed to be available on over 500 products across 200 hardware brands globally.

Spotify offers premium service for free for the first 30 days and then it will cost Rs. 119 (about $1.67) per month. Other than this monthly subscription Spotify offers many other plans which last for a single day, weekly, monthly, three months, six month and annual plans. Largely similar to the other streaming services available in India, Spotify also provides a free ad-supported product.

Last month Spotify signed a global content deal with T-series, which empowers over 160,000 songs. India can turn out to be a tough jungle for Spotify and it would be quite difficult here to win the race as Spotify will opening challenge to local player Gaana, which already empowers more than 80 million subscribers. Also, there are Saavn and Wynk, along with Google, Apple, and Amazon.

Spotify India launch is taking place under the light of Spotify’s legal battle with Warner Music Group, and they have specially asked an Indian court to block Spotify from being able to play music from its record.
